Maurice Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit ranks among the most important piano works of the 20th century and, as it were, represents the pinnacle of the extension of the piano playing techniques and tonal possibilities which started in the 19th century. Ravel took poems by Aloysius Bertrand as a basis of the three movements Ondine, Le Gibet and Scarbo. Thus, he follows the 19th-century tradition to combine instrumental music with literary works. The new edition of Wiener Urtext not only consulted the first edition, which has been used almost exclusively up to now, but also Ravel's autograph and his personal copy of the first edition on the basis of which numerous passages in the musical text could be corrected. Additional information from personal copies of Ravel pupils are analyzed in the Notes on Interpretation. This edition also features a glossary in three languages of the French performance instructions used by Ravel as well as English and German translations of the three poems by Bertrand.

At an early age, Johannes Brahms showed an interest in the music of composers before him. In this context, he came across the variations and themes of George Frideric Handel which, in turn, inspired him to write an extensive wor k of variations for the piano. This new edition of the Wiener Urtext Edition is based on a meticulous comparison of autographs, first editions and personal copies. BrahmsÂ' autograph copy served as an essential corrective and subsequent corrections made by the composer in Max KalbeckÂ's personal copy were taken into account as well. Franz Schubert's Impromptus Op. post 142 (D 935) are among his most frequently played piano works and have found a permanent place in music lessons and in the concert repertoire. The Wiener Urtext Edition now presents a new edition covering the latest musicological research. Closely following Schubert's original manuscript, numerous details have been added to and corrected in the text. This edition now also includes notes on interpretation by Robert D. Levin which look even into the most subtle shades of meaning of expression markings. The score and page layout have been designed in a user-friendly way.

Vienna Urtext presents the latest research into Schubert's first set of Impromptus for piano.
