About Hutchins & Rea

A professional retailer of Sheet Music, Hutchins & Rea has served the musical community of teachers, students and performers for many years. Founded in 1989 by the Hutchins and Rea family, the catalog initially specialized in classical piano music. Founding member William Hutchins, former principal violin with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and string teacher and chamber music performer with Emory University and Kennesaw State University, soon developed and edited our catalog of music offerings for strings and chamber music. Hutchins & Rea now has one of the largest sheet music catalogs available anywhere online.

We carry a wide selection of sheet music by composers ranging from Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Schubert to Shostakovich, Piazzolla, Ligeti, Schoenfield, Sherr and Still. At Hutchins & Rea not only will you find the entire catalog of publishers such as Hal Leonard, Boosey & Hawkes, Durand, Salabert, Max Eschig, Ricordi, Editio Musica Budapest, and Schott, but also huge sheet music offerings from Henle Urtext, Vienna Urtext, Barenreiter, Alfred, Latham Publishing, Last Resort, Dover, C.F. Peters, Theodore Presser, and FJH to name just a few. We also carry full scores, manuscript paper, music dictionaries, and piano methods and supplementary books.

Our commitment is to our customers and to the music that we sell. We belong to RPMDA, the Retail Print Music Dealer's Association, and NAMM, the National Association of Music Merchandisers.

About our staff

Bill Rea

Bill Rea is a composer, arranger, bassist, and cellist. Two of his piano works were recently released on an album entitled "Through an Open Window", performed by pianist Lucy Wenger, and produced by Grammy winner David Frost. This recording features Rea's "A Dissimulation of Birds" and "Variations on an Irish Song", as well as other works by Paul Schoenfield, Alan Hovhaness, and Janice Giteck. Commissions for Bill's compositions have come from Ondine and Company Dance, Atlanta Council for the Arts, the Cultural Olympics (Atlanta 1996), Music Teachers National Association (Georgia Composer of the Year, 2000), and performers including Laura Gordy and Peggy Benkeser of Thamyris, DaVid Pineda and Tirza Kosche of the Atlanta Chamber Orchestra, and many others.

In the 1990s Bill played cello with the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra and for thirty years he has been bassist with guitarist Glenn Phillips. He also performs with Jeff Calder of the Swimming Pool Q's in their collaboration, The Supreme Court.

He is a member of the American Composers Forum and the American Music Center. To read more about Bill Rea, please visit the American Composers Forum at: http://www.composersforum.org/.

Roxanne Rea

Roxanne Rea is a pianist and harpsichordist who has performed in a variety of venues including the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, Emory University, Georgia State University, the Fox Theater and the Georgia Renaissance Festival. Recently she has recorded soundtracks for several independent films which include music by Bill Rea.

Betty Ruth Hutchins

Betty Ruth Hutchins (aka .Bee.), also a pianist, comes from a musical family. Her father played viola in the Suffolk Friends of Music Orchestra conducted by Benjamin Britten. Her uncle, Jascha Schwarzmann, was a concert cellist, and performed in orchestras under Arturo Toscanini, Fritz Reiner, and Dimitri Metropolous. The walls of the Hutchins & Rea retail store are adorned with photographs from Bee's collection inscribed to Jascha by such musicians as Yehudi Menuhin, Joseph Gingold, Zino Francescatti, William Primrose, and composer Alexander Glazunov. Bee was on the staff of Georgia State University for many years and, upon her retirement in 1995, she joined the purchasing department at Hutchins & Rea. She is a member of the American String Teachers Association.

Don Eubanks

Don Eubanks is one of the founding members of the Retail Print Music Dealers Association and in 2005 was the recipient of its highest award for lifetime achievement in the print music industry. Before he joined the Hutchins & Rea staff in 2002 he was the owner of Symmes Music Company, one of the oldest sheet music establishments in Atlanta.

What our customers say about us

"I have used Hutchins and Rea continuously since 1989. I love it when I can actually talk to Bill Rea and his wife Roxanne, whom I have never met, but who seem to recognize my voice the minute I call! In addition to their warmth and wit, I appreciate receiving what I ordered, normally within two days. They will also call me if something is out of print, or if another edition is available. I guess you call that 'customer service,' something woefully rare nowadays. I also love their comprehensive web site, with literature from Arensky to Zaimont. Long live Hutchins and Rea!"

John Salmon
Professor of Music
University of North Carolina at Greensboro

"You deserve so much praise for what you do. I can't believe how many times I've heard such positive comments from students, parents, and other music teachers that I've told about your online music store. They are all so incredibly impressed with the service they receive. I can't imagine any store that offers better service to their customers!"

Karen Owen
Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance

"Thank you for your stellar service. We ordered the Soler Fandango late in the afternoon on Tuesday (well after your 2:30 deadline for same day shipments) thinking we would not receive it until Thursday. Instead, you somehow got it out on Tuesday and we received it on Wednesday. Our patron has to perform this piece on Friday so an extra day to practice is greatly appreciated. Thanks again for your excellent service!"

Robert Rich, Vanderbilt
University Wilson Music Library

"I have been dealing with Hutchins & Rea for over two years now and have always found your inventory, service, and pricing to be superior to other retailers. I want you to know that I have recommended your excellent site to all my friends and colleagues and greatly appreciate the personal service and attention you afford your customers."

Jason Calloway, Cellist

"Hutchins & Rea is unsurpassed for its seemingly limitless collection of music as well as its dedication to each customer's needs."

Lucy Wenger, Innova Recording Artist

"I always call Hutchins and Rea first and tell my students to do the same. The selection is superb, but what sets them apart is the thorough and friendly service. The knowledge of the repertoire and various editions is most helpful and they go the extra mile to track down anything."

James Giles
International Concert Artist
Piano faculty at Northwestern University
