Originally published in 1956, this remains an excellent supplementary collection designed for a student anxious to grow up and be an adult. While the title specifies that the book was written for “boys and tomboys”, times certainly have changed, and these pieces are pedagogically sound and present a wealth of musical experiences – different keys, modes, meters, rhythms, touches, technical problems – which the young pianist can use to “grow up” musically. Titles include Kindly Doctor, Zooming Pilot, and Taxi Driver.
