Sonata Op. 108 (originally for violin and piano) Transcribed for viola and piano by Andre J. Roy
André J. RoyÂ's transcription of BrahmsÂ's third violin sonata, rather than simply transposing the key of the piece down a fifth, instead accommodates the range of the viola through discreet octave displacements, much as Brahms himself did when transcribing his clarinet sonatas. RoyÂ's canny markings make practical and musical sense of the solo part in its new register.
