SONATA FOR SOLO CELLO (composer ARTUR SCHNABEL)
For his performance programs and recordings, Schnabel preferred the classical and romantic works (witness his recordings of the complete Beethoven Sonatas), yet determinedly created new ground in hiscompositional work. It is said that he was decades ahead of his time. The Sonata for Solo Cello seems somewhat out of place for its year of composition, 1931, but consider that it was written with thegreat Gregor Piatigorsky in mind. It would have to push the envelope of the day! Four-movement work for advanced students or professionals.
