Title Spanish Dancers - Later Elementary Level

Description: This has a typical Spanish melody and rhythms. It requires various hand positions that need to be mastered by “jumping” on time.

Purpose: To introduce the student to the Spanish flavor.

Suggestions for Instruction: I always start with the left hand first. Be sure to examine the length of the right hand slurs. Teach the value of two sixteenth notes compared to one eighth note. Point out mp to ff range. Use the metronome to show “jumping” hand positions on time in measure 9 and 44.

This piece had the approval of one of our local teachers, who taught piano in Russian schools before becoming a U.S. citizen 20 years ago.
