Steppin' Out
Each year, Carl Strommen writes the best original jazz ensemble teaching pieces for young bands, and this laid-back tune is no exception. With a bluesy feel (but not a standard blues form), STEPPIN' OUT uses a lot of question-and-answer phrases throughout and includes a nice solo section with spots for trumpet and alto sax (as written or improvised). It also works at a faster tempo if you want to teach up-tempo swing. This solid chart for young ensembles is really versatile, and your students will love it! Very Easy (3:27)
