In the nineteenth century, few pieces rivaled the choral ""Prayer"" from Rossini's opera/oratorio Mose in Egitto (Moses in Egypt) in popularity. Hailed as ""stunning,"" ""powerful,"" and ""haunting,"" ""Prayer"" was greeted with tumultuous applause at its premiere in 1820 and quickly appeared in many versions, including vocal quartet, marching band, violin solo, and piano. Over-performed, the piece vanishedinto obscurity in the twentieth century. We are excited to reintroduce the beautiful ""Prayer"" in an edition that incorporates Rossini's original version in Italian, his revised French version, and anEnglish version, all in a single publication.
