Minimusic--An Early Childhood Introduction to Music Theory--Teacher's Kit
By Paula Manwaring. Minimusic is a pre-reading music course which teaches the basic theory concepts for children ages 5-7. Each of the 32 lessons are outlines in an easy to follow lesson plan. Each lesson is designed to be completed within an hour. Minimusic is designed to teach in small groups. It can also be adapted for a larger class setting. Minimusic prepares students for studying piano, voice, and small instruments. Minimusic graduates are well prepared to begin regular music lessons on a primer level. Their working knowledge of rhythm and counting is outstanding! They will move very quickly as they have a solid understanding of the basic theory concepts. Theory concepts are taught through stories, songs, games, worksheets, and class activities. Minimusic Teacher's Kit is all inclusive. Student Workbooks are required for the course and are sold separately. Theory Concepts Taught--Rhythm and steady beat; counting and clapping any combination of the note values learned (two-eighth notes to whole notes); white key names; basic music symbols; line/space note recognition; basic pitch; direction of reading; intervals up to a 5th; musical alphabet; as well as familiarity with many musical instruments and their families. Contents Include: Teacher's Manual outlining each lesson; Student Workbook; Cloth Keyboard and Transparencies; Flash Cards (instrument, note value, rhythm, musical alphabet, intervals, keys); Music Symbol and Instrument Bingo Games; Bingo Chips; Pitch Puppets; CD with songs and instrument sounds.
