Little Sonata for Cello and Piano (1942)
Revised new edition - 2017! Paul Hindemith composed the Little Sonata for Cello and Piano on the 13th / 14th May in New Haven (USA, Connecticut). He wrote this work - like a series of other works that were specifically characterized as small at that time - for his wife Gertrude to enjoy at home. This explains the ambitious, musical content of the work, while at the same time reducing the technical requirements. Hindemith never published the work or publicly performed it.
