Choralbuch for Klavier or Harmonium (DOEFFEL)
Ninety chorale texts and tunes, giving the date and origin of each chorale tune. The Choralbuch is of value as material for the study of harmonic analysis, especially as an introduction to the Bach Chorales frequently used in such analyses. Also of historical interest are the names of many 17th-century composers, such as Johann Hermann Schein, Johann Crueger, Hans Leo Hassler, Johann Pachelbel, Michael Praetorius, Heinrich Isaak (16th century), Melchior Vulpius, also Johann Adam Hiller of the 18th century, and many others. Still another possibility in the use of this collection is for sight-reading, both vocal and at the keyboard, and for practice in transposition. The chorales lend themselves particularly well to intervallic transposing through harmonic analysis.
