Title Caprice in the Form of a Chaconne after a Theme by Schumann Op 43 for Solo Cello

Edited by Carter Enyeart. From the editor's notes: "The Caprice, Opus 43, is a remarkable work for solo cello that challenges the most confident performer with its technical demands. For many years it was required repertoire on international cello competitions. The original theme is from the introducton to Schumann's Violin Sonata No. 2, Opus 121. Klengel's version consists of a ten measure statement presented as a chaconne. What follows are 24 variations which explore virtually every technical and stylistic approach deemed possible on the instrument when the work was writtein in 1905. The mastery of this work prepares the performer to meet the technical challenges that became more common in many works for cello written later in the 20th Century."
