Benissez-Nous (Bless Us, God) - A French Sephardic Song, Psalm 118
Bénissez-Nous can best be described as a set of choral variations on a French Sephardic song from Bayonne (France, not New Jersey!). Cohen bounces the tune from one part to another, creating an aural feast. Sung in both French with Hodu L'Adonai Ki Tov as a Hebrew refrain, Bénissez-Nous is as delightful and enjoyable as it is unique. The tune was originally a Sukkot children's song, but works equally well for Hallel or commencement of religious school.
