A Suite of Lyric Pieces arranged by Duncan MacMillan
Transcribed for violin or flute, cello or bassoon and piano. Approximately 15' duration. Includes Arietta, Op.12/1; Sommerfugl (Butterfly), Op.43/1; Halling (Norwegian Dance), Op.47/4; Springdans (Leaping Dance), Op.47/6; Notturno, Op.54/4; Salon, Op.65/4; For dine Fodder (At Your Feet), Op.68/3; Smatrold (Little Troll), Op.71/3; Efterklang (Remembrances), Op.71/7. Graceful arrangements of solo piano pieces that effectively highlight solo instruments. Great care has been taken to preserve and highlight the beautiful singing line permeating Grieg's compositional thought. Musical argument is carefully distributed between all three players. Occasional technical demands in all parts. String/woodwind parts exploit all registers of the instruments with some ossias included in the parts to maintain idiomatic writing. Piano scoring occasionally expands on Grieg's original figurations to better balance solo lines. Audiences have delighted in hearing these arrangements in concert.
