FauréÂ's piano works are of central importance within his compositional oeuvre. He dedicated his Â"BalladeÂ", composed in 1879, to his teacher Camille Saint-Saëns. Structurally and in terms of its lyrical character the work breaks from the genreÂ's epic form and takes on the traits of the sonata form. In 1881 Fauré arranged his Â"BalladeÂ" for piano and orchestra and the work was premiered in this new scoring.Drawing on the most recent discoveries and comprehensive source research, the work is presented in a scholarly-critical Urtext edition. The publication, which is based on the Â"ÂŒuvres complètes de Gabriel FauréÂ", includes a detailed foreword and notes on performance practice.

FauréÂ's 13 Â"BarcarollesÂ", composed over a period of almost four decades (1882Â-1921) are highly representative of his output for piano and are regarded as his most characteristic works. They reflect his breaking free from the Romantic idiom, particularly that of Chopin and Mendelssohn, developing an independent musical language in which he combined tradition and the emerging modernism.

Not much is known about the origin of the Berceuse Op. 16 composed in 1878 or 1879 although it surely is one of the most famous works by Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924). Later, Fauré even arranged the work for orchestra. This little masterpiece, full of charm and tenderness, has been re-edited by the renowned violin teacher Maria Egelhof, professor at the Lübeck Academy of Music.

Composed in 1878-79 for violin and piano, this beautiful melody has been transcribed for the cello, a perfect complement for students studying any of Fauré's cello works.

It has been magnificently orchestrated for wind band by Myron Moss, and is already garnering national attention with several important performances including The Midwest Clinic in Chicago, December 2003. The six pieces in this little suite were written between 1893 and 1896. They were inspired by Hélène Bardac, the daughter of a singer with whom he was friends. The girl was born in 1892 and called Dolly on account of her small, delicate figure. The pieces, composed mainly for her birthday or the New Year, reflect the world as experienced by the growing child, from a lullaby to a temperamental dance. But it was not meant to be taken too seriously, as shown by the subtle allusions to his own music and that of others. Despite their simple basic structure these pieces, which soon became popular, contain numerous harmonic and rhythmic subtleties typical of the French composer - children's music that is also well suited to adults.
