'Acrobats of God' is a modern dance work, music by Carlos Surinach. First produced in New York in 1960. Since the work is highly pianistic, some of the pieces have been extracted for the piano.

Khachaturian's ballet Spartacus (1950-54) was first performed at the Kirov Theatre in Leningrad in 1956. This edition makes a piano arrangement of the ballet's beautiful Adagio available for the first time.

Mozart composed his Adagio in B minor K540 at a time when his financial situation was steadily deteriorating. The war against the Turks was constraining the Viennese people's interest in music - works were not commissioned and concerts did not take place. It was of no matter that Mozart had shortly before (in 1787) been appointed a salaried k.k. Kammer-Kompositeur. Nevertheless in this year he composed several of his most important works: the Coronation Concerto K537, the three late symphonies as well as several piano trios. And he also composed this tender Adagio in B minor with its captivating expressiveness. Our single edition uses the musical text from the revised Edition Piano Pieces (HN 22).

In his Autobiographical Sketch Ravel looks back and stresses the importance of his Miroirs (51480842), published in 1906, for his harmonic evolution. He said that they had disconcerted even those musicians who had been most familiar with my compositional style up to then. This is particularly true of the fourth piece in the collection, Alborada del gracioso (Morning song of the court jester), with its frequent employment of harsh dissonances. This both technically and musically charming genre scene, full of rousing ideas and rhythms, is one of the French composer's best-known piano pieces today. Henle now issues it in a single Urtext edition.

During his research, Christopher Hogwood came across a source to which George Bozarth has drawn attention in the Spring of 2011 and which had not been available for any previous edition. The source consists of a one-page autograph of a piano piece which the young Brahms wrote in a guest book. Twelve years later Brahms re-used this literal Â"AlbumblattÂ" (untitled by Brahms) in his horn trio. The piano piece is published in a scholarly-critical edition, both as a facsimile and in modern notation.

Now back in print, this definitive 240-page collection of the complete piano works of noted composer Robert Starer includes not only his popular 'Sketches in Color' but also a large number of previously hard-to-find intermediate pieces perfect for teaching. In typical Starer style, the pieces in the collections Steven Vignettes (1950), Four Seasonal Pieces (1985), Three Israeli Sketches (1957), At Home Alone (1980), and Hexhedron (1971) bear imaginative titles such as The Camel and the Moon, Dancing Next Door, and Doggedly, Lulishly, Almost Pig-Headedly, a literary connection that encourages students to connect emotions to notes.
