Who Were the Shepherds, Mary?
In this, the second of Three Basque Christmas Carols, the strong and independent character of the Basque people is well represented. This lullaby asks Mary, mother of Jesus, who the people werewho felt compelled to come and adore the new-born baby with such reverence and awe. The secondof three carols (each voiced differently), this piece has enough individual character to stand on its own.
