Energy and a cheerful disposition are essential ingredients for an effective performance of this wonderfully catchy rag, as are a steady rhythm and razor-sharp articulation. An interesting side-note: Although Joplin and rag may seem synonymous with composer Scott Joplin, Mr. Joplin never actually lived in Joplin, Missouri, the town in southwest Missouri to which the title refers. He did, however, reside for a period of time in Sedalia, Missouri!
