The Voyage Aboard the Charming Sally - Performance Pak (2 Scores/10 Parts)
This historically correct musical depicts events that virtually set the stage for theater in America. In June 1752, a sailing ship known as the “Charming Sally” transported a hearty troupe of actors from England to the New World. This sturdy band of performers, under the direction of Lewis Hallam, formed the first professional American Theatrical Company. The Charming Sally's historically significant voyage was especially intriguing in that our adventuresome entertainers used the ship's quarterdeck to stage and rehearse productions that would be presented in the New World. The ship's salty sailors served as their enthusiastic audience. The musical uses William Dunlop's “History of the American Theater” published in 1832 as its primary source of fact. It includes seven original songs and speaking parts for as many as 33 students. Parts may easily be doubled for smaller cast sizes. Songs are available in either 2 pt or 3pt. mixed voicing. Costuming, set and scenery suggestions are all included. Grade Level: 4-9. Perf. Time: Approx. 50 minutes.
