Highlights of the 2013-2014 season include Neil Patrick Harris in his Tony Award-winning Broadway debut in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Audra McDonald's history-making sixth Tony Award as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill, and Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston in his Tony-winning turn as LBJ in All the Way. A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder narrowly beat out Beautiful: The Carole King Musical for the Best Musical Tony, but Jessie Mueller took home a Tony for her portrayal of Carole King. The subversive Heathers: The Musical was a hit Off-Broadway, as was the Barbra Streisand send-up Buyer & Cellar with Michael Urie of Ugly Betty fame. Regionally, I and You at California's Marin Theatre won rave reviews and awards for playwright Lauren Gunderson.
