Moonstone - Mid-Intermediate Level
Description: Moonstone is a piece in the popular style, with several key changes. The A sections are lyrical; the B section features a syncopated bass line.
Purpose: To give the student experience in cantabile playing with lots of pedaling, some scale passages in thirds and sixths, key changes and a rhythmic LH figure in the middle section.
Suggestions for Instruction: The chords in the second and third A sections should be voiced so as to bring out the top-note melody line. The E flat inverted triad over an F bass in measure 20 is a hint of things to come at the beginning of the B section. Keep a steady driving beat in the LH of the B section.
