This concerto in one movement, with elements of tango, blues, and other traditions, effectively uses the interplay between soloists and string orchestra. It challenges and rewards string ensembles, ranging from youth orchestras to professional symphonies. The combination of steel-string guitar with string quartet and string orchestra has rarely been called for by composers; this work marks an important chapter in the evolution of steel-string guitar as a concert-hall instrument.
