Complete Piano Works, Volume 2 (The First World War)
With his Â"Douze PréludesÂ" op. 36 and Â"Trois NocturnesÂ" op. 35 composed between 1914 and 1916, Vierne followed in the Romantic piano tradition, whilst lending the historic models that special sound between elegance and expressivity, as is characteristic for French music of the period. The editor of the volume is the distinguished pianist Olivier Gardon. As a performer and scholar, he has researched Louis VierneÂ's piano music for over twenty years of which he has an unparalleled knowledge. This can be convincingly heard on Olivier GardonÂ's complete CD recording of 1995.
