First steps in string ensemble playing

- Includes many canons The Sassmannshaus Â"Early StartÂ" string methods cultivate playing together as early as possible, initially in duets. However playing in larger mixed ensembles is also encouraged and this tried-and-trusted edition for strings provides the perfect start for this. The first songs can all be performed in canon; each piece is notated in violin, viola and bass clef so that all three string instruments can play together in any number and combination. The collection then continues with through-composed pieces by such composers as Johann Valentin Rathgeber and Johann Joseph Fux. Here the middle part may optionally be performed by a viola or second violin.

The 18 pieces in Volume 1 are structured to follow the same progression of finger patterns introduced in the Â"EarlyÂ" Start method. This systematic progression helps the student to solidify the hand position and improve intonation. The basic bowing techniques do not require changes in bow speed or sounding point. The young performer can focus on a straight and beautifully placed bow that produces a pleasing and clear sound. The Â"Cello Recital AlbumÂ", Volume 1 (BA 8994), can be used as a supplement to the Â"Early Start on the CelloÂ" method, Volumes 1 and 2 (BA 8996 and BA 8997).

The 12 pieces in Volume 2 are structured to follow the same progression of finger patterns introduced in the Â"Early StartÂ" method, Volumes 2 and 3. The later repertoire in this volume includes a careful introduction of downward and upward extensions. The Â"Cello Recital AlbumÂ", Volume 2 (BA 8995), can be used as a supplement to the Â"Early Start on the CelloÂ" method, Volumes 2 and 3 (BA 8997 and BA 8998).
