The Cadenza Series presents cadenzas of well-known instrumental concertos from the classical and romantic periods. Each cadenza was composed by an outstanding composer or soloist of our time. This edition features cadenzas by Czech composer and pianist Erwin Schulhoff. Includes Concertos No. 1 in C Major, No. 2 in B-flat Major, No. 3 in C minor, and No. 4 in G Major.

Oboe, Clarinet and Bassoon Parts

Erwin Schulhoff was a German-speaking composer who was born in Prague in 1894 and died in the Nazi concentration camp in Wülzburg (Bavaria) in 1942. In the 1920s he returned to his native Prague to teach at the local conservatory. His compositions, with their blend of traditional genres, jazz syncopations, dance rhythms and moderately expanded tonality, were fully attuned to the tenor of the times.This edition contains five of SchulhoffÂ's piano cycles with a total of thirty-five jazz-inflected pieces ranging from the relatively easy Â"Esquisses de jazzÂ" (1927) to the fairly demanding Â"Cinq études de jazzÂ" (1926). This is the first Urtext edition of this music and draws on the original prints comparing them with the surviving handwritten sources. Errors have been corrected and distinctive traits of SchulhoffÂ's notation retained. Michael Kube has edited this first ever scholarly-critical edition on the basis of the prints published in SchulhoffÂ's lifetime and compared these with the surviving handwritten sources.
