Three Sec (1965)
From the introductory notes: "Three Sec, an early work composed in 1965, shows the influence of the miniature piano works of Anton Webern and Arnold Schoenberg. In lieu of the classic twelve-tone pitch organization, the composer employs motives and a controlled flow of the twelve pitches of the chromatic scale. As the title implies, the work is constructed of three pieces. The first piece shows a block-like structure with a fast grouping of pitches. The second exibits a controlled evolving of events, accunulatung in spikes and clusters of sounds. The third piece uses an ostinato and has the function of balancing the previous two pieces. An interesting feature occurs in the final piece where the second half is a retrograde reflection of the pitches of the first half."
