Dowani 3 Tempi Play-Along enables you to learn a work systematically and with accompaniment at different tempi. The first thing you hear on the CD is the concert version in a first-class recording with solo instrument and orchestral, continuo, or piano accompaniment. The oratorio La Fenice sul rogo ovvero la morte di San Giuseppe can rightly be considered the debut of Pergolesi's career as a composer: composed in the early months of 1731 the oratorio was commissioned by the Congregazione di San Giuseppe located by the Oratorio dei Filippini in Naples. Edition realized with criteria of philological rigor, based as the main source on the autograph score and on the manuscript copies still preserved. The volume includes: historical introduction; detailed description of all the sources considered; commentary with critical notes and information related to specific problems of performance practice.

The Pergolesi Suite is formed from the two final movements of Pergolesi's popular Stabat Mater, composed in 1736 just before the composer's death. The expressive vocal writing is operatic in style and requires a dramatically operatic interpretation.

From Pergolesi's (1710-1736) Salve Regina comes this adapted version for two-part mixed voices. The new, more contemporary text, is uplifting and tender. The imitative, cascading lines are beautiful.

The 'Stabat mater', composed shortly before PergolesiÂ's untimely death at the early age of 26, quickly attracted attention. The workÂ's importance was soon so great that none other than Johann Sebastian Bach performed a German version of the work based on the 51st Psalm. Numerous copies, prints and arrangements attest to the workÂ's vast popularity, a popularity that still exists today. For the present edition, the autograph was for the first time compared to a very early Neapolitan score that is presumably based on the parts from the workÂ's premiere. The findings have influenced the musical text; the details are described in the critical commentary.
