cover for Beethoven: At the Piano
Beethoven: At the Piano--9 Well-Known Original Pieces in Progressive Order

Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas are the New Testament of music, according to Hans von Bülow. Our selection here does not take things quite so solemnly, because we have also taken the opportunity to show the more worldly side of the composer, with dances, bagatelles, the unusual character piece Lustig und traurig (Happy and sad), and of course, the indestructable Für Elise. As usual in our series At the Piano, all the pieces are arranged progressively from easy to medium level of difficulty. And you do not have to be in awe of Beethoven's piano sonatas either: the highly Classical sonata in G major (essentially a sonatina) offers an ideal introduction to the many-facetted world of Beethoven's sonatas. In contrast to this, we also show Beethoven the poet at the piano, with the first movement of his Moonlight Sonata in C sharp minor, along with the funeral march from the Sonata in A-flat major - visionary creations that already point far ahead into the world of Romanticism. Contents: Lustig-Traurig, WoO 54 · Six Ecossaises, WoO 83 · Bagatelle in A minor, WoO 59 Für Elise · Piano Sonata No. 20 in G Major, Op. 49, No. 2 · Adagio sostenuto from Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 2 Moonlight · Marcia Funèbre sulla morte d'un Eroe from Piano Sonata No. 12 in A-flat Major, Op. 26 · Piano Sonata No. 9 in E Major, Op. 14, No. 1 · Nine Variations onQuant' è più bello from La Molinara by Giovanni Paisiello, WoO 69 · Bagatelle in G Major, Op. 126, No. 1 · Bagatelle in G Major, Op. 126, No. 5

cover for Brahms: At the Piano
Brahms: At the Piano--15 Well-Known Original Pieces in Progressive Order

Each volume in the At the Piano series includes original pieces by one composer. The works are arranged in progressive order of difficulty and complement one another conceptually. Each piece ranges from one to eight pages. All volumes contain fingering and practical tips on technique and interpretation. The At the Piano series is an ideal introduction to the world of classical piano music and is particularly suitable for piano students and for all those who are returning to the piano after a long break. The series is edited by Sylvia Hewig-Tröscher, a piano professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. She has decades of experience teaching young people and adults, gives concerts and masterclasses around the world, and is a much sought-after educator. Brahm's music does not have to be difficult or melancholy - our selection here proves it. Even less advanced pianists will find playable, immediately appealing pieces amongst his works for piano. His delicate intermezzi are dreamy and soulful in mood, while our selection of his waltzes (which Brahms himself published again in simplified versions) shows his cheerful, Austrian side. Contents: Waltz in E Major, Op. 39, No. 5 · Waltz in B-flat Major, Op. 39, No. 8 · Waltz in D minor, Op. 39, No. 9 · Waltz in G Major, Op. 39, No. 10 · Waltz in B minor, Op. 39, No. 11 · Waltz in A Major, Op. 39, No. 15 · Intermezzo in E Major, Op. 116, No. 6 · Intermezzo in A minor, Op. 76, No. 7 · Intermezzo in B-flat Major, Op. 76, No. 4 · Intermezzo in E-flat Major, Op. 117, No. 1 · Ballad in D minor, Op. 10, No. 1 · Rhapsody in G minor, Op. 79, No. 2 · Romance in F Major, Op. 118, No. 5 · Intermezzo in C Major, Op. 119, No. 3 · Ballad in G minor, Op. 118, No. 3

Chopin: At the Piano--17 Well-Known Original Pieces in Progressive Order

Although Frédéric Chopin was one of the greatest piano virtuosos of his time, even pianists of moderate technical ability can enter into his Romantic, magical realm. His mastery was such that his own, unmistakeable style is tangible even in his shorter, less difficult pieces such as his mazurkas and waltzes. Our selection offers a progressive introduction to the musical language of this Polish-French master. Contents: Waltz in A minor, KK IVb, No. 11 · Waltz in B minor, Op. Post. 69, No. 2 · Waltz in C-sharp minor, Op. 64, No. 2 · Prelude in C minor, Op. 28, No. 20 · Prelude in B minor, Op. 28, No. 6 · Prelude in E minor, Op. 28, No. 4 · Prelude in E Major, Op. 28, No. 9 · Prelude in D-flat Major, Op. 28, No. 15 Raindrop · Mazurka in A minor, Op. She has decades of experience teaching young people and adults, gives concerts and masterclasses around the world, and is a much sought-after educator. You do not need to be a piano virtuoso to enter into the dream world of French Impressionism. With Debussy this is especially straightforward because he knows how to create masterly miniatures possessing poetic depth, even with simple technical means. Clair de lune is probably the best known of these, though by no means the only example, as our selection here proves. And whoever works through this volume successfully can then play a real concert piece in the shape of La Cathédrale engloutie, the final work in our selection. Contents: The Little Shepherd from Children's Corner · Golliwogg's Cakewalk from Children's Corner · Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum from Children's Corner · Arabesque No. 1 from Deux Arabesques · La Fille aux cheveux de lin from Préludes, Book 1 · La Cathédrale engloutie from Préludes, Book 1 · Clair de lune from Suite bergamasque · Sarabande from Pour le piano · La plus que lente

Grieg: At the Piano--15 Well-Known Original Pieces in Progressive Order

Each piece ranges from one to eight pages. All volumes contain fingering and practical tips on technique and interpretation. The series is edited by Sylvia Hewig-Tröscher, a piano professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. She has decades of experience teaching young people and adults, gives concerts and masterclasses around the world, and is a much sought-after educator. Edvard Grieg was a master of the Romantic miniature for piano, and with his ten volumes of lyric pieces he more or less created a new genre all on his own. These works offer an abundance of wonderful pieces that are ideal for a guided return to the piano. It proved difficult to choose a selection of them for our volume. But we also offer well-known pieces from the orchestral suites From Holberg's Time and Peer Gynt, which Grieg himself arranged for the piano. Naturally they are presented superbly in true Urtext. Contents: Bell Ringing from Lyric Pieces, Op. 54, No. 6 · Watchman's Song from Lyric Pieces, Op. 12, No. 3 · Waltz from Lyric Pieces, Op. 12, No. 2 · Arietta from Lyric Pieces, Op. 12, No. 1 · Berceuse from Lyric Pieces, Op. 38, No. 1 · Remembrances from Lyric Pieces, Op. 71, No. 7 · Puck from Lyric Pieces, Op. 71, No. 3 · Little Bird from Lyric Pieces, Op. 43, No. 4 · Notturno from Lyric Pieces, Op. 54, No. 4 · Wedding Day at Troldhaugen from Lyric Pieces, Op. 65, No. 6 · Sarabande from From Holberg's Time, Op.40, No. 2 · Gavotte from From Holberg's Time, Op. 40, No. 3 · Solvejg's Song from Peer Gynt Suite, Op. 55, No. 4 · Morning Mood from Peer Gynt Suite, Op. 46, No. 1 · Anitra's Dance from Peer Gynt Suite, Op. 46, No. 3

Schubert: At the Piano--12 Well-Known Original Pieces in Progressive Order

The Perfect Music Series for Piano Students and for Those Returning to the Piano. Of the twelve composers in our At the Piano series, Franz Schubert was undoubtedly the least at home at the piano - but nevertheless what masterpieces he left us for this instrument! There is hardly any pianist who is not immediately captivated by the cheerful yet melancholy atmosphere of Schubert's impromptus and Moments musicaux. Even the simple pieces by Schubert at the beginning of this volume have surprising twists in store that afford them a profundity of their own. Nor are his dances mere entertainment. No matter how charming they may seem on the surface, there is always a wistful tone in his waltzes and ländler. This seems to reflect the gravely ill composer's presentiment of his own death. Contents: Scherzo in B-flat Major, D. 593, No. 1 · Ländler in B-flat Major, D. 378, No. 6 · Ländler in B-flat Major, D. 378, No. 7 · Ländler in B-flat Major, D. 378, No. 8 · Eight Ecossaises, D. 977 · Waltz in A-flat Major from First Waltzes, D. 365, No. 1 · Waltz in A-flat Major from First Waltzes, D. 365, No. 2 · Minuet in D Major, D. 41, No. 16 · German Dance in D Major, D. 790, No. 1 · Impromptu in A-flat Major, D. 935, No. 2 · Moment musicaux in F minor, D. 780, No. 3 · Moment musicaux in A-flat Major, D. 780, No. 6 · Hungarian Melody in B minor, D. 817 · Variations 1-7 and 13 from 13 Variations on a theme by Anselm Hüttenbrenner, D. 576 · Piano Sonata in A Major, D. 664
